Selman House

Bowen Island, B.C.

This craftsman home allows natural light to flow effortlessly into itself through a careful choreography of glazing types. The  home was designed on one of the Pacific Northwest Coast’s favourite gulf islands as a place to live year-round. The extensive use of raw post and beams paired with finished and vibrant surfaces enhance and complement its stepped waterfront setting. The open stairway acts as a central axis for the home to operate on, offering extensive uninterrupted views of the Pacific Ocean while the vaulted ceilings lend height to the surrounding Douglas Fir and Cedar trees.

Galiano House

Galiano Island, B.C.

Using the ‘Ken’, the tatami matt measure sacred to Japanese architectural design, this small island home (750sf/70m2) was mirrored to double its footprint. Timber frame details were employed using site milled timber and expressed on the interior and exterior. Careful placement of window and skylights captures sacred daylight in the rain forest setting.
